The Twin bore, 8.15m, 4.7Km tunnels were constructed by a joint venture partnership between Costain, Skanska, and the French Contractor, Bachy Soletanche.
This section of the Channel Tunnel Link, is the connection from section 1 in Kent through to the London Portal.
The project was executed utilising a NEC shortform of contract with target costs. VVB formed part of the original Costain, Skanska, Bachy bid team and on successfully securing this contract we then engaged in a Pre-construction period which was an Early Contractor Involvement initiative put forward by RLE and Union Railways.
VVB were appointed by the Joint Venture Board to project manage the M & E requirements of the contract from inception through installation, commissioning and maintenance of the works to completion of all aspects of the construction phase of the project.
VVB provided all the Temporary Mechanical and Electrical services throughout the construction phase of this contract which included all engineering support, installation and maintenance of both of the Wirth Tunnel Boring Machines.
On bringing this phase of the project to completion successfully within budget the client has brought together all the four 200 series contracts (C220, C230, C240 and C250) and requested that VVB carry on the works for the next phase of the project.
