VVB are proud to announce that Project Engineer Edward Ward has been involved in the PRECIS Working Group (Partnership in Reducing Emissions from the Construction Industry Sites).
The group was established in 2005 to assist London Councils and the Greater London Authority in producing a best practice guide for construction sites to enable all parties involved meet the Mayor’s Air Quality Strategy.
The group was made up of academics, politicians, councillors, construction companies, engine manufacturers, construction plant hire companies and environmentalists. All with the common goal to make the best practice guide work for London.
Edward has a history of conducting research on diesel emissions and emission control systems, and together with his experience of construction plant and construction methodology, Edward was representing the construction industry on behalf of Costain.
‘The control of dust and emissions from construction and demolition’ Best Practice Guidance was launched at City Hall on the 21st of November 2006. Edward was in attendance along with the Ken Spiby, the Construction Manager on Costain’s M25 Holmesdale Refurbishment Project.
When asked about the PRECIS group Edward had the following comment, “The PRECIS Working Group was a great group to be involved with. Although it was a struggle at times to get all parties to understand how all the targets of the Best Practice Guide could be achieved, whilst still being mutually beneficial. But in the end I believe we helped the London Councils produced a document which will help improve the air quality in the capital whilst all the construction work during the Olympic projects and during other construction projects, are taking place.”
The Best Practice Guidance is currently available from the Greater London Authority.
