Senior Quantity Surveyor (J36)

Full-Time, Permanent (London based with travel to sites around the UK)

£70,000 to £80,000 per annum

VVB Engineering provide complete solutions for mechanical and electrical systems; with expertise ranging across the rail, road, airport, power and utilities and construction sectors. We specialise in the construction, maintenance and refurbishment of road and rail tunnels and we are currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team. This position will be based from our London office, with travel to sites in and around London.

The position:

  • Working with the project and sector managers to ensure projects exceed its commercial targets
  • Contribute to regular and accurate reporting to senior management, including PHRs, CVRs, Cash Flow etc
  • Control the project budget and determine regular commercial forecasts
  • Carry out valuations for the purpose of payment applications
  • Manage sub-contractor accounts in line with the agreed subcontracts and to align with any upstream contractual requirements
  • Identify, notify and value changes (variations, compensation events and claims)
  • Ensure the companies contractual obligations are met, not least regarding the times for giving notices and making applications
  • Support any tender processes and company strategy as required
  • Liaise with the procurement team as necessary for the engagement of subcontractors

What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of standard engineering and/or construction contracts
  • Degree qualifies in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent
  • Hold a valid CSCS card
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Build and develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor /Junior Commercial Manager

Principal Electrical Engineer (J18)

Full-Time, Permanent (London based with travel to sites around the UK)

£55,000 to £85,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting for Principal Electrical Engineer responsible for the deployment and organisation of the Electrical Engineers. You will advise the business on Engineering legislation and compliance as well as managing all aspects of electrical works.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage VVB’s safe system of works and Electrical rules in-line with current legislation
  • Assume the role of lead Engineer in the execution of specific tasks
  • Be the technical lead representative at project and progress meetings within clients
  • Work in a collaborative approach with internal and external stakeholders on lessons learnt and moving forward
  • Work in conjunction with the bid team, to review proposals and scope documents for tenders
  • Review and verify design documentation up to 33KV level
  • Ensure design risk assessment process is complaint with legal and construction parameters
  • Ensure risks, safety, health, environmental and commercial are designed in line with principles
  • Provide engineering solutions to project problems, to satisfy clients expectations, project restrictions and budget constraints
  • Undertake site visits, report and advise on technical, environmental and H&S issues
  • Liaise with the installation teams to ensure design suitability, work methodologies and provide solutions on installation problems
  • Ensure appropriate certifications and reports are issues for completed electrical works
  • Support procurement with reviewing the electrical supply chain
  • Work with procurement to determine product suitability with manufacturers
  • Attend FAT and SAT meetings
  • Mentor Engineering Graduates and Apprentices and support HR with the development of these programmes
  • Review and develop electrical personnel qualifications and competencies

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience within Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience within Low to Medium Voltage Electrical Equipment
  • Previous experience within a M&E contractor and/or design house
  • Previously worked within the infrastructure environment
  • HNC and/or HND
  • Engineering Council Registration with preference as Chartered
  • Registered member of either CIBSE or IET or other recognised Engineering Council institutions
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Full UK drivers license
  • Proven track record of delivering Mechanical/ Electrical, process design projects within budget and to programme in a design and built environment
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical installations legislations and standards, BIM and design modelling standards
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of SHE requirements, relating to the Electricity at Work Act
  • Ability to instruct and lead teams in producing design deliverables to a high standard
  • Collaborative approach
  • Adept in MS Office packages, including Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Flexible approach, with the willing to travel nationally and work unsociable hours
  • Establish good working relationships at all levels

Project Cost Controller (J12)

Full-time, Permanent, (Rainham – with occasional travel to sites)

£45,000 to £50,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting a Project Cost Controller working within the Commercial Finance department. Reporting into the Commercial Financial Controller and working alongside the Project team, you will be responsible for managing the financial performance of individual projects. You will support Management by providing reports and producing accurate forecasting and cash flow data.

The position:

  • Work with the Project teams to ensure the understanding of the specifics of the project plans and contract
  • Ensure all necessary interfaces and processes are adhered to, including the application procedure, and provide all supporting calculations and documentation to the client
  • Manage workload effectively to meet the business and finance deadlines set
  • Control and challenge procurement and/or sub-contractor costs and investigate variances between forecasted and budgeted costs.
  • Liaise with the Client/PM to resolve overdue applications, certifications and payments
  • Liaise with the Finance function to provide information to support journal entries, to capture late costs, provisions and revenue recognition
  • Communicate with the Project teams, ensuring all reports are accurately reflecting the operational and financial status of the projects
  • Collate and compile project financial reports and monthly and weekly cashflow forecast information to present to the Finance and Management teams

What we’re looking for:

  • CIMA/ACCA qualified or equivalent
  • GCSE level educated, with A-C grades in English and Maths
  • Three to five years finance experience
  • Previous experience in a similar job role
  • Adept in using MS Office programmes including Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Knowledge of financial processes including forecasting and cash flow
  • Comfortable working in a site-based environment
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills with the ability to manage deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the business and non-financial personnel
  • Excellent attention to detail
