Senior Mechanical Engineer (VVBJ1)


Permanent, £60,000 – £70,000 per annum plus benefits 

Looking for a new challenge for 2020? VVB Engineering are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join one of our projects based in Croydon. Working closely with the Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the Mechanical package has adequate resource and is running on time and to budget in-line with the project programme.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Creating detailed work plans, identifying sequences and key activities
  • Determining resources, including operatives and equipment
  • Liaise with the Project Manager to monitor Quality, Assurance and handover documentation
  • Accountable for ensuring installation activities are in-line with contractual requirements
  • Review design submissions and provide technical and constructability comments
  • Liaise with external suppliers for the supply and installation of engineering packages and systems
  • Responsible for the commissioning of mechanical systems
  • Prepare suitable risk assessments, in-line with H&S requirements, legislation and policies
  • Generate, prepare, collate and close out ITP’s for Mechanical system

What we’re looking for:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, or equivalent
  • SMSTS qualified and hold a CSCS management card
  • Previous experience within a similar position and managing a large team
  • Previous experience within large scale industrial ventilation, pumped pipework and building HVAC
  • Strong and demonstrable knowledge of mechanical design and construction techniques and methodologies
  • Build and develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Mechanical Estimator (VVBJ2)


Permanent, £50,000 – £60,000 per annum plus benefits!

An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Estimator to join our Work Winning team has arisen. Based in our London office, this position will be responsible for producing accurate and timely estimates for a range of sectors, including Rail, Power and Utilities, Tunneling and Highways!

Working alongside the Electrical Estimator and Bid Manager, this position will give you an opportunity to review, develop and implement bid best practice processes and policies aligning to the overall company strategies and goals.

What will the position involve?

  • Continuously looking at ‘best-practice’ processes and policies
  • Obtaining competitive quotations from sub-contractors and suppliers and maintain accurate records
  • Review and analyse proposal specifications and drawings to produce an accurate tender
  • Coordinate mechanical database pricing and labour units
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders on specific project requirements
  • Attend pre-tender and mobilisation meetings
  • Produce take-offs and price mechanical works
  • Present estimates to internal and external stakeholders, when required

What we’re looking for: 

  • HNC qualified, or equivalent
  • Adept knowledge of Mechanical principles
  • Knowledge of estimating best practices and methodologies
  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator
  • Ability to interpret drawings
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent attention to detail
